About the Springville Preservation Society

The Springville Preservation Society was formed in April 1992 to protect and maintain Springville's historic downtown and to collect and preserve artifacts of the area's history.

The Society's first major accomplishment was petitioning to add Springville to the National Register of Historic Places. In 1997, 2,500 acres of central Springville, encompassing the business district and adjacent older neighborhoods including almost 140 historic structures was designated as a National Historic District.

The Preservation Society currently owns three properties in Springville: the former Masonic Lodge at the east end of downtown Springville, a 200-year-old cabin that was once part of a hotel in nearby St. Clair Springs, and Springville's Old Rock School. The first floor of the Masonic Lodge will soon open as the Springville History Museum, and the second floor will house geneological archives. After restoration, the St. Clair Springs cabin will serve as a City Welcome Center. Plans are currently in development for the restoration of the Old Rock School as a community center.

Members of the Preservation Society work hand-in-hand with the City of Springville's Historical Commission and other community groups in their efforts to protect the future by preserving the past.

The Springville Preservation Society meets monthly on the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm on the second floor of the Masonic Lodge building at 6496 U.S. Highway 11 (Main St.) in Springville. All are welcome.
